Obituary for Rose E Callahan

Rose Elizabeth Callahan passed away February 4, 2017. She was born October 28, 1935 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, to the late Eddie Lee Callahan and Mattie Farrar Callahan. She grew up on the family farm, went to Tabernacle Baptist Church, and graduated from South Hill High School.

Her first career was an English teacher but she soon moved to the bustling life of New York City where she became a research Librarian for the New York Port Authority.

She enjoyed helping with group projects at the First Methodist Church in New York City. She had a lifelong passion for horses, reading, and traveling. The destruction of the World Trade Center was particularly tragic for her in that she lost her coworker and many friends.

Rose is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Callahan Fisher and Annie Laura Callahan Rice. Also, a brother-in-law, John Vajda, and sister-in-law, Barbara Callahan. Her brothers and sisters that have passed on are Katherine C. Vajda, Eddie Lee Callahan, Jr. (Pete), Frances Summers, and H. Thomas Callahan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will recieive friends for visitation at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Farrar Funeral Home with her service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
